How It all started
Since Reverend J. W. Fields organized the church in 1873, FUMC Terrell has been serving the area, with our current sanctuary standing since 1900.

Founded in 1873
The Reverend John Washington Fields in this photo from about 1862 is shown wearing his preacher's frock coat, white vest, a typical blocked preacher's hat of the period and multi-color, striped tie. In this photo he purposefully posed leaning on a pulpit that has what appears to be a huge Bible on it, and in the area where a cloth is draped across the puplit and has created a light colored square, he has written the words "Your friend".
Rev. J.W. Fields lived from 1817-1886. He organized our original First United Methodist Church of Terrell in 1873, the same year the Texas & Pacific Railroad opened a station at the Terrell Townsite. A frame church was built and the congregation grew in numbers to about 495 when the current brick sanctuary was constructed in 1900.
